Methocarbamol (Robaxin®)
Introduction
Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant primarily used to treat muscle spasms. It is also employed to manage symptoms from exposure to toxins that cause tremors, such as snail/slug bait, over-the-counter flea medications, or certain fungal toxins. Most side effects of Methocarbamol are dose-dependent, meaning they are more prevalent at higher doses. If your pet experiences unacceptable side effects, contact your veterinarian to discuss adjusting the dosage.

Potential side effects
While Methocarbamol is generally well-tolerated, some pets may experience side effects such as:
Sedation or Mobility Issues: Pets may appear sleepy or have difficulty walking.
Agitation: Some pets can become very agitated, exhibiting frantic whining and panting. This is more common at high doses or when combined with other medications such as sedatives and pain relievers. The behavior can resemble pain, making it confusing to differentiate. Adjusting the dosage or timing of the medication may be necessary to manage these effects.
Behavioral Changes: Rarely, pets may exhibit behaviors like mania or aggression. If such behaviors occur, discontinue the medication immediately, isolate your pet for safety, and consult your veterinarian.
Respiratory Depression: Although rare at normal doses, if you notice any breathing difficulties in your pet, seek immediate veterinary attention.
Gastrointestinal Issues: Drooling, vomiting, or decreased appetite can occur. If you observe these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian for advice.
